Event Description

February 4, 2013 Updated Feb 4, 2013 at 4:10 PM EDT

The Williamsville Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities will honor St. Marianne Cope with a Liturgy of the Eucharist and a reception to be held at St. Mary's Church in Swormville. The liturgy will be celebrated by The Most Reverend Bishop Richard J. Malone, D.D., bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, and other diocesan and area priests. A reception will immediately follow Mass in the parish center. The events are being held to celebrate Mother Marianne's recent canonization and her 175th anniversary. St. Marianne, also a sister of St. Francis born in Utica, N.Y. in 1838, became general superior of her congregation in Syracuse and later ministered to patients in Hawaii with Hansen's disease (leprosy) for 35 years until her death in 1918. The Mass and reception will feature Hawaiian-themed music and decorations. To RSVP for the Feb. 10 reception, please call 716-632-2155, ext. 687.
