PRESS RELEASE:

Over the last several years the Trading Post Community Care Center has seen a dramatic increase in the number of families, especially working families who need help with food, clothing, housing, and other basic needs. Largely due to the current state of the economy, we have seen a huge increase in need at our SOUTHERNTIER FOOD PANTRY. In only our second full year of operation, we are already serving over 5,000 hot meals per year and logging in more than 1,000 volunteer hours to accomplish this work! A few churches in our area also host some free meals at certain times of the year and the public turnout has been extraordinary as well!In our rural area many seniors and those who are disabled struggle with fixed incomes and many families are trying to live on low wage incomes. Due to these factors, we have seen the need to expand our outreach and are seeking more caring partners to reach out to help through our Community "Soup" Kitchen.

We offer a “free hot meal” to the public every Wednesday at noon, and a "Community Dinner" the 2nd Thursday evening at 5pm and is open to anyone! The goal and mission of our "Community Kitchen" is to reach out by:

“Showing God’s love by sharing a meal with our neighbors and offering a hand of friendship.”

Our next fundraising effort for this worthy cause is our "SOUP"er BOWL event and will be held Saturday, February 2nd from 4-7pm at the VFW POST in Springville ( 650 East Main St.) Tickets are $10 per/person at the door and includes bottomless bowls of soup, appetizers, and desserts. We will also have DOOR PRIZES and a gift AUCTION. Everyone is welcome to attend!! We are looking more people interested to get involved! You can make a crockpot of your favorite soup, an appetizer, donate a gift or theme basket, or volunteer to help in our Kitchen!
