Event Description

February 8, 2011 Updated Feb 8, 2011 at 5:07 PM EDT

The Red Blazer Varieties features The Amherst Male Glee Club on March 18 and 19 at 7:30 PM, with a Saturday Matinee at 2:00pm on March 19, in the Amherst Central Theatre Auditorium, 4301 Main Street, Snyder, New York. Ticket information is available by calling 875-2958. Producer and Director Brett Ransom gets the show off to a fast start with the Glee Club in their signature Red Blazers singing "We're Doin' A Show" and "Rhythm of Life". Continuing with a wide variety of music, the AMGC will be performing coal mining songs including "Big Bad John" and "Sixteen Tons"; hits like "Can't Help Falling in Love With You" and "Still the One" in a college a cappella style; ending the first half with memorable elections from West Side Story including “Maria”.
The second act gets off to a rocking start with the glee club performing three hit songs by the rock band Styx. The AMGC will then feature the music of American composer Aaron Copland. A patriotic tribute finishes off the show including a surprising closing number, a very familiar march, rarely heard as a vocal. Black out sketches and this year's special guests, Brian LaTulip and John Buscaglia, as the Hotel brothers: Hilton and Astor from their box seats, will be providing comic relief. The show with something for everyone.
Ticket Information: Tickets are economically priced at $17, $15 for Seniors at the Saturday Matinee Performance only, and a special group rate is available. Call 875-2958 for information.
