Event Description

September 23, 2010 Updated Feb 4, 2013 at 11:29 AM EDT

The Fort Wayne Medical Society Alliance proudly presents our 18th Annual Doctor's Day. Admission is free and open to the public, thanks to the continued and generous sponsorship of the Fort Wayne Medical Society Foundation, Lutheran Health Network, and Parkview Health.
On the first Saturday of each March, Doctors Day is held at Science Central. Our partners in this event are Lutheran and Parkview Health Systems. This event, chaired by Maria Krach, has grown from a concept seed to a much-anticipated event in our community that represents one of the longest-running health fairs in our area.

It is the day when the Alliance endeavors to educate children in the science of medicine, by providing them the opportunity to visit with doctors, nurses, dietitians, and other health care professionals to learn about careers in medicine. In addition, this event makes available important general health information to children and their families.

Alliance volunteers deliver over 20,000 flyers to area school children and their families to this fun, free, and educational event, bringing 2,500 free admissions to Science Central on this day.

This year, the event will be held on March 2, 2013 from 10a-3p. Admission is free until 2p, thanks to continued sponsorship by the Fort Wayne Medical Society Foundation, Lutheran Health Network, and Parkview Health.

Activities will tentatively include the landing and display of the Lutheran
Air and Parkview Samaritan helicopters (weather permitting); the chance to explore emergency medical vehicles; presentations by health professionals on career options and training; and hands-on activities including a teddy bear first aid station and making a removable finger cast.

*Overflow parking is available for guests at Lawton Park. Parking in the main lot is limited, so we kindly request that our volunteers park in the back lot or Lawton Park only. Thank you!
