Basil Toyota is expected to make a bid for the site of a neighboring auto dealership.
Michael Basil, who runs the Lockport dealership, is interested in the former Gambino Ford property on South Transit Road. The 27-acre parcel was scheduled to be auctioned July 8 in a court-imposed foreclosure.
Basil said if he acquires the Gambino property, he will move his Toyota dealership next door and use it as the base for expanding his business. He is working with the Town of Lockport Industrial Development Agency on an incentive package for the deal.
Basil Toyota currently has 3.3 acres.
Tentative plans call for Basil to add 9,000 square feet to the existing 27,000-square-foot former Gambino service center. The extra space will serve as a new showroom. A sales building out front will be razed to make room for more lot displays.
As for the current Basil Toyota property, several options are being considered.
"I could use it for another franchise or another (automotive) use," Basil said. "Or I could sell it."
The Gambino dealership has been empty since late 2008 when Ford closed it as part of a nationwide consolidation.
