(WKBW release) A coalition of unions and community organizations has presented Occupy Buffalo with a check for $5800 – the proceeds of a benefit party held at the Pearl Street Grill attended by over 400 people.

The check was presented by David A. Palmer, Area Director of the Communications Workers of America, who noted the money is earmarked for helping to keep the Occupy campers warm through the winter while also providing a way to pay the City of Buffalo for the electricity that is being used in Niagara Square.

The presentation was part of a Worker Appreciation Day rally, sponsored by Occupy Buffalo. The rally featured a march to Verizon headquarters, the Niagara Post Office and the Mahoney State Office Building where participants heard speakers focus on the need to create and retain jobs.

The benefit Dec. 4 was sponsored by CWA District 1 and CWA Locals 1115, 1117, 1122, 1133 and 1168, the Western New York Peace Center, Citizen Action of New York, 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Teamsters Local 264, and the Buffalo Teachers Federation.
