Some strong storms bringing severe lightning, high winds and the torrential downpours moved through portions of western New York and northern Pennsylvania Friday night. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for McKean and Potter counties in Pennsylvania and a severe thunderstorm watch Chemung, Tioga and Broome counties in Central New York. Wind damage with trees and power lines down were reported in Potter counties near Coudersport, Pennsylvania.

Now this is all part of a low pressure system centered over the northern Great Lakes that is slowly moving eastward through the region. The front of the system moved through Western New York last night causing numerous watches and warnings throughout the day in the mid-Atlantic states including Washington, D.C. A few tornadoes were reported in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. and in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh.

Locally as we move through the remainder of the weekend, Saturday looks mainly dry with a slight chance for some isolated showers in the early evening hours. Sunday we could see more of a steady rain with highs near 64. It will be rather breezy on Sunday with winds around 20mph.
