Sheriff's Office Seeking Citizen Input on Awards

(WKBW release) Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is inviting the public to submit nominations for four annual awards given by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office at the yearly Badge & Shield Dinner, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 24 at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens on Transit Road in Depew.

The awards that the public is eligible to nominate somebody for are as follows:  

Robert Insalaco Youth Award -- given to a youth 18 years or younger, who has demonstrated significant assistance to a law enforcement agency, or who, by his/her actions, has exemplified excellent judgment in helping others.

Joseph Wachowiak Outstanding Citizen Award -- given to a citizen or group of citizens’ who have assisted law enforcement in an outstanding manner.    

William R. Dils Deputy of the Year Award -- Given to an Erie County Sheriff’s Office member who exemplifies him/herself over and above the call of duty, with courage and bravery, or who performs a significantly outstanding event.  

William Dillemuth Outstanding Service Award -- Given to a member of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office who has done a significant service for the betterment of his/her fellow co-workers or the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

All of the awards are named after fallen Erie County Sheriff’s deputies.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF NOMINATIONS IS FEBRUARY 15, 2012

All recommendations are to be directed to the Awards Chairman: Deputy Superintendent Robert Koch @ Ten Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, New York 14202 or to the Badge & Shield Club- PO Box 81, Niagara Square Station, Buffalo, New York 14201-0081.

A committee of approximately 12 volunteers from all areas and ranks of the Sheriff’s Office will review the various recommendations.  They are then voted on by secret ballot. 
When submitting your nomination, please give a detailed account of the event in which you believe your nominee is eligible for the award- include any newspaper clippings.
Also include name, address, daytime phone numbers and cell phone numbers, emails’, etc., so that award winners can be notified by the end of business on February, 2012.
