Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- More than 160 volunteers from 54 local families worked Monday to benefit eight area agencies during the second annual United Way Family Volunteer Day.
Volunteers completed projects in Buffalo, East Aurora, Tonawanda and Cheektowaga that ranged from community mural painting and light neighborhood clean-up with West Side Neighborhood Housing Services, to cleaning and maintenance projects at the Boys & Girls Club of East Aurora.
Each of the eight projects offered families an opportunity to spend quality time together and make a difference in the community at
the same time.
"United Way's mission is to bring people, organizations, and
resources together to improve community well being," said Michael
Weiner, United Way president. "Family Volunteer Day is about bringing families together to experience the joy of volunteering - which helps not only the agencies but ultimately, the people these agencies serve."
