(WKBW release) New York Senator Charles E. Schumer on Wednesday announced that the Lake View Fire District will receive a grant totaling $88,347 in Round 15 of the FY11 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
According to a news release:
AFG awards are administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and are designed to help firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. The Lake View Fire District, in Erie County, will use this funding to purchase new mobile and rig based radios to facilitate the county wide switch to VHF, a high band frequency for first responders.
"With these funds, Lake View firefighters will have the proper equipment to safely respond to emergencies in the region,” said Schumer. “This investment will help ensure that our local heroes have the updated radio capabilities that will allow them to efficiently and effectively keep residents safe.”
