Sabres take care of business, beat Florida

Buffalo (WKBW.com) The Buffalo Sabres scored two goals in 13 seconds in the third period to close out a 4-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Friday night. The win kept the 8th placed Sabres 3 points ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Standings.



Jason Pominville opened the scoring for the Sabres in the first period. Pominville knocked a rebound past Thomas Vokoun for his 19th goal of the year, and a 1-0 Buffalo lead. Florida would tie the game later in the period off a turnover. Tyler Myers fell down trying to clear the puck , Sergei Samsonov would then backhand home his 13th of the year to tie things at 1.



The Sabres would retake the lead in the second. Drew Stafford would score his 27th of the season off an assist from Brad Boyes.



Buffalo would take control of the game in the third period. Jordan Leopold tipped home his 13th of the year on the power play. Stafford added his second of the game just 13 seconds later to make it 4-1 Sabres. Evgeni Dadonov would score for Florida with just :03 left in the game.



Ryan Miller made 22 saves in the victory. The Sabres host New Jersey on Saturday.



The NHL may take a closer look at a penalty to Florida forward Stephen Weiss. Weiss was given two minutes for elbowing in the second period when he caught Paul Gaustad in the head. Gaustad left the ice, but returned.
