Tonawanda, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- A North Tonawanda High School graduate is the recipient of a statewide scholarship from the Fireman's Association of the State of New York for her volunteer service.
Kimberly L. Reeves received the Gerard J. Buckenmeyer/FASNY Volunteer Scholarship at a ceremony last week. Reeves received a certificate as well as a check for $1,000 for her volunteer service in the community.
Reeves, who graduated from North Tonawanda this spring and will attend Niagara University, volunteers with Sweeney Hose Company No. 7's weekly Lenten fish fries. She also assists the Erie County SPCA by caring for animals that need a foster home.
Reeves was one of 10 students chosen for the scholarship. A total of 130 students throughout the state applied, which was the highest number submitted in the history of this award.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community and the proof of his or her character.
