(WKBW release) The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System Board of Trustees and Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski announced the appointment of Carol Ann Batt to the position of Chief Operating Officer following Thursday's monthly board meeting.
Batt has over thirty years experience with the Library System, and most recently was Assistant Deputy Director of Information Technology and Technology Support, a position held since 2008.
Batt fills the role left vacant when Jakubowski was appointed to Library Director in June of this year.
“Carol brings superior supervisory and leadership expertise to this position,” said Jakubowski. “Her broad-based knowledge and experience includes public services, collection development, system support services and administration. She is the right person for the job, assuming a key role in the Library’s future."
In her new position, Batt will be responsible for all aspects of the Library System’s public services, outreach and technology support as well as the day-to-day operations of the downtown, Central Library and Buffalo’s 8 city branches. In addition, Batt will work closely with the community libraries to help insure the System’s visibility and viability.
Batt began her career working in the Buffalo library branches and spent eight years in the Amherst Library System. She holds a Master of Library Science degree from the State University of New York at Albany. Batt is a member of the American Library Association, Public Library Association and New York Library Association and past president of the Public Libraries Section of the New York Library Association.
