(Jamestown, NY) ( release ) Eric Fragoso continued to remain hot with his second consecutive two goal game to lead Jamestown to a 4-2 victory over the Traverse City North Stars.
Traverse City controlled play for the first 15 minutes of action but Cody Sarmiento too advantage of a North Stars turnover and blasted a slap shot by Kyle Laslo to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead on just their second shot of the period.
Jamestown seized momentum after the goal and Bryan Watt too advantage of an extra attacker situation to increase the Jamestown lead to 2-0. Traverse City outshot Jamestown 8-7 in the first period but Jamestown had six shots and two goals in the final five minutes to take momentum into the second period.
Eric Fragoso remained the best Jamestown forward and took over the game in the second period. He scored his first of the night just after the five minute mar of the second period and added his second of the game with less than two minutes left in the second to give Jamestown a 4-0 lead.
The North Stars refused to quit and gave Jamestown a bit of a scare in the third period. Sean Murphy broke the shutout near the midway point of the period and Jared Van Wormer cut the lead in half with 1:35 remaining.
Cody Sarmiento took a slashing penalty with 1:15 left and the North Stars had a 6-on-4 advantage with the goalie pulled. Ironmen goalie Joey Ballmer made two good saves in the final minute to preserve the Jamestown victory.
The Ironmen and North Stars will complete their three game series on New Year’s Day with a 2 p.m. faceoff at the Jamestown Savings Ban Arena. Good seats are still remaining to see the Ironmen try to complete a three game sweep of Traverse City.
