A recent Groupon discount offer swamped a small bakery in England, according to its owner.
According to a BBC report, the bakery offered 75-percent discounts on a dozen cupcakes through the U.S. based Groupon and then got swamped by 8,500 orders. The bakery usually does about 100 orders of cupcakes per month, according to the BBC report.
The bakery owner had to hire temporary workers to handle the demand, and said the cost for extra employees and shipping and distribution wiped out her yearly profits.
