(WKBW release) Mayor Byron W. Brown and Commissioner Daniel Derenda swore in 44 new police recruits Friday afternoon at the ECC downtown campus.
Following the ceremony, the recruits begin their training on Monday. That training lasts approximately six months. The new officers are expected to hit the streets sometime in June or July of this year following their training.
Since taking office in 2006, Mayor Brown has added 131 officers to the force. If all 44 recruits graduate, that will bring the total to 175.
Currently the Buffalo police department has over 700 officers in the department.
