Amherst, N.Y. (WKBW release) – A total of 70 volunteer firefighters from the Eggertsville, North Bailey and Snyder Fire Departments participated a live-fire training exercise at a donated home on LeBrun Road in the Eggertsville Fire District on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The training, which reinforced the practical application of fire suppression, rescue and ventilation techniques, was supervised by Nationally Certified State Fire Instructors under the direction of Chief John Buttino of Eggertsville Hose Co., and complied with the National Fire Protection Association's 1403 Standard for Live Fire Training.

“Opportunities to train in these types of structures are extremely rare, and the value of such training is immeasurable,” Buttino said. “These live fire evolutions are the closest thing to a real fire that many volunteers will ever get to train in.”

At the end of the two days, the fire companies were able to safely execute 13 fires with no serious injuries and countless lessons learned.

“I would like to thank the neighbors for their support and cooperation with this unique fire training opportunity.” added Buttino.
