Canisius High School Enshrines Alumni in Athletic Hall of Fame

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW/RELEASE) - Six individual alumni and a team will be this year’s new inductees into Canisius High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony at 6 p.m., Sat., Nov. 13, 2010, in the school’s Bernard J. Kennedy Field House, 1180 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.

Also during the event, James J. Lilley ’67 will posthumously receive the 2010 John F. Barnes Award, which recognizes the achievements of a member of the Canisius High School community who has continued to distinguish himself in the field of athletics.

The individual alumni inductees are:

§ Robert Austin '38 (posthumously)--football, baseball, basketball

§ Timothy M. Barrett '71—football

§ Brendan Curley '89—hockey, soccer

§ Philip Gangi '90—baseball, football

§ Chris Barry '99—baseball, basketball, volleyball

§ Jack Turner '00—wrestling

The team inductee is 1980 varsity soccer, whose members comprise:

Canisius High School’s Alumni Association presents the Athletic Hall of Fame awards each year to alumni who had exemplary athletic careers while attending the school. The Barnes award was instituted by the Canisius High School Class of 1932 to memorialize legendary school coach Johnny Barnes.
