September 30, 2013 Updated Aug 24, 2013 at 6:59 PM EDT

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW/UB) - The University at Buffalo head football coach Jeff Quinn announced on Saturday afternoon his team captains for the 2013 season, Khalil Mack, Colby Way, Branden Oliver, Alex Neutz and Jasen Carlson. This is the first time in Quinn’s tenure as head coach that he named season long captains at UB.

“I believe the team and coaches did a great job selected this years five captains, Khalil Mack, Colby Way, Branden Oliver, Alex Neutz and Jasen Carlson” stated head coach Jeff Quinn. “All five young men are very deserving to represent this team as they are guys that embrace the culture that we have set forth. This is not a accolade, this is a responsibility and they understand how important that is.”

Mack, a two-time first team All-MAC performer, enters his senior campaign as a highly touted NFL prospect. He led the Bulls in tackles with 94 and led the MAC in tackles for loss with 21 as a junior. Mack ranked fifth in the conference with eight sacks and he also ranked second in the MAC with four forced fumbles. Entering his senior year, Mack already holds the school record for career tackles for loss (55) and forced fumbles in a career (11).

Colby Way returns after a fine junior season which saw him account for 58 tackles and 10.5 tackles for a loss to go along with ranking second on the team in sacks with seven. The State College, PA native also recorded one interception and one fumble recovery last season.

Neutz returns as the Bulls leading receiver from a season ago as he recorded a team-best 65 catches for 1,015 yards and 11 touchdowns. Neutz earned second-team All-MAC accolades for his performance as a junior.

Oliver becomes a team captain for the first time after compiling 821 rushing yards and five touchdowns in only seven games last season. The Miami, FL native will look to carry the load for a very deep and experienced backfield.

Carlson will be the anchor of an offensive line that rushed for an average of 176.7 yards per contest during the 2012 season while allowing 27 sacks.

“We are very excited about each of them representing our program with class and distinction,” proclaimed Quinn.

The Bulls open up their 2013 schedule on the road at #2 Ohio State on August 30 at 12 pm. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN 2.
