BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- 15 year old Dominique Maye was shot and killed on Hewitt Avenue near Bailey during late Thursday evening on Buffalo's east side. Neighbors say many bullets flew at the house the teen lived at. "I lost count after like the 10th because there were so many shots all at once," one neighbor said.

Homicide detectives say more than a dozen shots were fired toward the house from an assault rifle. Bullet holes now cover most of the front of the home. The teen was found dead in the living room in the home where she lived with her aunt and siblings. "My cousin here is dead... it makes no sense that she's dead because of some {person}... running around with a gun," a relative said.

Dominique was a freshman at Riverside High School Institute of Technology. The school said she was a good student and was well liked. "She ran track, she good at what she do, she's smart," the victim's cousin said.

Students at the high school there say the school observed a moment of silence Friday morning in Dominique's memory. Parents say they can't believe what has happened. "I'm in shock... my daughter goes to school here and now it makes me wonder, but it's a good school ... but I'm shocked, I'm concerned," one parent said.

Police are unsure if Dominique was killed inside or outside of her home, or if this young girl was the intended target or an innocent victim. "She had nothing to do with it... I think it's ridiculous," a cousin said.
