(MSNBC.com) A nine-year-old Virginia boy died earlier this month after coming down with a rare infection known as the "brain-eating amoeba," according to a Richmond Times-Dispatch report.
The newspaper reported that Christian Alexander Strickland became infected after swimming at a fishing camp in Virginia. He died on August 5.
It was the third death connected to the "brain-eating amoeba" -- Naegleria fowleri -- this month. A 16-year-old Florida girl and a Louisiana man also died this summer from the rare infection.
