September 27, 2013 Updated Aug 4, 2010 at 6:45 PM EDT

( Release ) On August 4, 2010 at 6:06 AM the Niagara County Sheriffs Department received a 911 call reporting that a man with a gun had entered a home at 1058 Youngstown-Lockport Rd in the Town of Porter.

Officers from The New York State Police, The Niagara County Sheriffs Department, and The Town of Lewiston Police responded. Occupying the residence were a husband and wife along with their two 17 year old daughters. SHAWN M. ZIMMERMAN, DOB 1/7/80 of 2762 Main Street #1, Newfane New York, had entered the residence and was holding the occupants hostage.

Responding officers were able to engage ZIMMERMAN in a conversation on the telephone. ZIMMERMAN was making threats that he would kill the occupants if the police did not leave. Officers immediately entered the residence and took him into custody.

The male homeowner was taken to ECMC by ambulance and is being treated for a stab wound to his abdomen. The female homeowner was to ECMC by a private vehicle and is being treated for lacerations to her hand. Their two daughters were uninjured and are presently with a family member.

No gun was found at the scene or in the possession of ZIMMERMAN, however the butcher knife that ZIMMERMAN had used did not belong to the homeowners and it is believed that he had brought it with him.

The investigation is continuing and ZIMMERMAN is expected to be arraigned later today.
