(St. Catharines, ON.) – release - Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Niagara Detachment are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that has occurred in the Toronto bound lanes of the QEW on the Garden City Skyway in St. Catharines Ontario.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Monday July 5 2010, an OPP officer reported a head-on collision along the QEW Toronto bound involving a Honda Civic and a Chevy Cavalier. It appears the Cavalier was traveling along the QEW in the wrong direction and struck the Honda head-on.
The male passenger in the Honda, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was transported by air ambulance to Sunnybrook Hospital and her condition is unknown at this time. There were two children in the rear passengers seat of the Honda one 11 years old and the other 7 years old both females were transported to Greater Niagara Hospital with minor injuries. The male driver of the Cavalier was also transported by air ambulance to Hamilton General with non life- threatening injuries. Police are looking at alcohol as a factor in this collision.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time until next of kin has been notified.
