GRAND ISLAND, NY ( WKBW ) If you don't end up with some sand between your toes this holiday weekend, you may be in the minority. Why? Because it looks like it will be a busy weekend at local beaches.
David Clark, Park Manager at Beaver Island State Park says, "It's going to be mobbed...the beach will be full."
He says they are bracing for busy weekend at the beach, noting "that's the think that drives Beaver Island's attendance, the bathing beach." He notes that attendance is up 30% this year.
It took a long battle between State lawmakers to even open State Parks this summer, because the budget fiasco threatened to close some of them down this summer.
Erie County's regulated beaches are also expected to be mobbed. Tara Noworyta, a regular at Bennett Beach in Derby said, "I have to actually work, but I guarantee it's going to be absolutely packed because it's going to be gorgeous this weekend, and with the fourth it's going to be pretty slammin."
All State Park and Erie County Beaches will have lifeguards on duty all weekend, and bacteria levels have been tested. The results? Beaches have been determined safe for swimming.
