BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Happy Canada Day! Many Canadians are enjoying their holiday by crossing the border into the United States here in Western New York.

The SKYCAM 7 shot of the Peace Bridge at the Noon hour showed the wait to cross into WNY was anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. At the Noon hour, traffic headed to Canada was normal, however that will change when visitors return home later Thursday and Sunday when the long weekend will end.

Here is some background on Canada Day as posted at wikipedia.com-

Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada), formerly Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération), is Canada's national day, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into a single country called Canada. Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally.
