LOCKPORT, NY (WKBW) -- Thousands of people made it to the kickoff of the Canal Concert Series in downtown Lockport during Friday evening, to enjoy live music and mingle. "We see a lot of people that we know, good reason to socialize and hang out with a lot of people we don't always see," one resident said.

"We live nearby so we walked down. It's just nice to get out, summer time," another attendee said.

It's the third year for the series in Lockport and ten years total. The City of Lockport Mayor Mike Tucker says it's an event that's growing each year. "Lockport is the place to be on a Friday night. Our crowds are increasing, we have a great lineup this year, it brings a lot of economic development in the city, hotels are full, the restaurants are full," Mayor Tucker said.

The opening bands were The Funky Beets and The Ragbirds The main act was rustedROOT which has been here before. "Last year they asked us to do this concert series and we had such a good time and such a great turnout so we couldn't resist coming back," Patrick Norman, the bass player for rustedROOT, said.

Channel 7's Jennifer Stanonis co-hosted the night's concert. Other personalities including Aaron Mentkowski and Dave Cash will also be at a few future concerts.
