A limited liability company affiliated with Bryant & Stratton College has purchased land adjacent to the college's existing Orchard Park campus with the intent to build a facility for the college's growing online program division, a college official said.
B&S Southtowns Campus Group LLC paid $377,000 for the parcel, public records show. It bought the land June 18 from Orchard Park Commerce Center Inc., Acquest Management Inc., and Orchard Park Commerce Center Joint Venture.
Jeff Tredo, Bryant & Stratton director of Western New York colleges, said there are no immediate plans to construct a separate facility, but that could soon change.
"We foresee a need in the future to move the online division into a new facility, so (B&S Southtowns Campus Group) purchased that lot for that purpose," Tredo said. "I would imagine over the course of the next two years we will see them build that."
The new facility would house personnel who work in the online program department, Tredo said. The college currently employs 65 people in its online division, which offers 10 different programs to student who want to take classes via the Internet. Anticipated online enrollment this fall is 1,500 students, up about 30 percent from last year, he said.
"That entire division has been growing faster than any other part of the college," Tredo said. "We've been making (personnel) hires to keep up with that growth."
Bryant & Stratton's Orchard Park campus, which opened in the fall of 2005, is one of three campuses it maintains in Western New York. It has a site in downtown Buffalo and this fall expects to open its new 30,000-square-foot building on Millersport Highway in Amherst. The $6 million construction project replaces space that the college leased from Uniland Development Co. in the Audubon Business Park.
