A pedophile loophole is drawing the attention of Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY). He wants to change part of a federal law that currently allows pedophiles and other convicted sex offenders to coach sports, operate carnival rides, and provide private lessons to students.

The way the law is currently written it only prevents sex offenders from working with children in jobs that are federally funded. Schumer's proposed changes come after recent reports of a convicted child molester running a karate school in Queens. "Parents for Megan's Law has the hotline. You can find out if there are registered sex offenders in your community, but we don't want to leave it just to the random situation where someone actually checks. We want to make it illegal to do and keep all of our children safe," says Schumer.

The new legislation would prevent registered sex offenders from accepting paid or volunteer positions that put them in direct contact with minors.
