HAMBURG, NY (WKBW-TV) -- The New York State Police in Troop T (Thruway) Buffalo are investigating a two vehicle injury accident that occurred on I-90 westbound just west of the Hamburg interchange at approximately 10:00a.m. Friday morning. The accident resulted in a passenger vehicle becoming wedged under a tractor trailer in the passing lane.

The tractor trailer was in the passing lane and starting to move into the driving lane, the driver of the tractor trailer driver saw the passenger car in the driving lane at the last moment and moved back into the passing lane. The driver of the passenger car initially moved to the right shoulder, then over-corrected to the left, causing the car to slid sideways and become lodged under the tractor trailer, just in front of the rear wheels of the trailer.

The Barnes Transportation tractor trailer was driven by Shelton Rankins, age 50, of North Carolina. Mr. Rankins was not injured.

The Passenger car was driven by Sajjad Raja, age 45 of Grove City Pennsylvania. He was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight and is being treated for a broken pelvis. The front seat passenger was Gulchera Bano, age 88, she was taken by ambulance to ECMC and being treated for a broken arm and pelvis. Saba Raja, age 30, was in the back seat and transported to ECMC by ambulance with a broken leg. A 10 month old child of Sajjad and Saba was taken by ambulance to Women's and Children's Hospital for treatment of facial abrasions. All passengers had the same address as the driver in Pennsylvania. The 3 adults had to be extricated from their vehicle. None of the injuries are life threatening.

The accident was reported at 10:00a.m. resulting in the passing lane being blocked at that time. Both lanes were blocked periodically for about 40 minutes for extrication and the landing of Mercy Flight. Both lanes were re-opened at 12:22p.m.
