Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) - While the FIFA World Cup plays on in South Africa-- keep in mind you don't have travel that far to see professional soccer.

"No, you don't have to go too far at all " says Aaron Lines.

He's Head Coach for the Buffalo Flash Professional Women's Soccer Team. They play at Canisius College when games are held here at home.

"It's a competitive league with some of the best women players from around the country and world-- and it's right here at home, says Lines.
Support for the Flash is growing-- and so is support for the sport here in WNY.

"It's no longer a sport that's considered for wimps and lesser athletes, it's for elite condition players having a good time" says Nick Mendola, owner of FC Buffalo, a local team that plays in the National Premier Soccer League.

Both men hope the "soccer spirit" grows here in Buffalo over the next several days as the FIFA World Cup games play out right here on Channel 7 beginning Saturday at 1:30pm.

We hope you think enough of FIFA World Cup excitement to sign our online petition to bring the games to the United States. The link is right on the front page of wkbw.com. Click it, fill it out, and help score a goal for the U.S.A!
