Stage Set for World Cup

SOUTH AFRICA (ABC) -- The stage is set for the beginning of the most popular sporting event on the planet.

FIFA World Cup 2010 begins this weekend, with festivities already under way in the host country of South Africa.

The Kick-off Celebration Concert airs Friday night on WKBW-DT Channel 7 beginning at 8:00 p.m. You can also catch FIFA World Cup action on Channel 7 Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. as England plays the U.S., and on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. as Germany plays Australia.

FIFA World Cup action continues on Channel 7 on Saturday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. as Cameroon takes on Denmark, and on Sunday, June 20 at 2:00 p.m. as Brazil plays Ivory Coast.

WKBW-DT parent company Granite Broadcasting is supporting an initiative to bring the FIFA World Cup back to the United States in 2018 or 2022.
