The Hamburg Police Department and New York State Police have teamed up to increase traffic patrols in the area of Route 5 and Bayview Road in the Town of Hamburg. Law enforcement officials tell Eyewitness News the initiative was started because of a recent fatal accident on Route 5, and concerns from drivers and community members. Back in May on Mother's day, 45-year-old Tammy Huber died when the car she was riding in collided with an suv at the intersection of Route 5 and Bayview road. Her daughter, 22-year-old daughter Leeann Deering who was driving that car, was injured in the crash.

"This road is unique, it's such a short stretch of roadway, it's 55 mph and there's businesses and side roads where people are coming from," said New York State Police Captain Steve Nigrelli. "It's a recipe for disaster."

Motorists traveling through that stretch of roadway should expect to see more patrols in the area. To date, New York State Police have issued 29 speeding tickets and 81 other traffic violations and the Hamburg Police Department have issued 45 speeding tickets and 55 traffic infractions.
