BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Carl Paladino now has a running mate joining him in his gubernatorial campaign as he tries to get on the Republican primary ballot. Paladino's choice for Lieutenant Governor is from downstate. He's former New York City Council Minority Leader Tom Ognibene from Queens. Ognibene has close ties to the Conservative party.

Ognibene has been rumored as a potential running mate for the Buffalo developer for the last couple of months. Paladino is making his choice official as he begins circulating petitions to get on the primary ballot. Paladino did not get the minimum support of 25 percent at last week's state Republican convention that he needed in order to get on the ballot without doing petitions.

Paladino spoke about his running mate choice on the Time Warner cable show "Capital Tonight". "We think he's a man of good management experience. He's been there in a managerial position in government...and that's the type of person we're looking for for that job," said Paladino.

Paladino has positioned himself as a political outsider and now he's choosing a running mate who has political experience. Ognibene also challenged New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the primary back in 2005.
