It was gay pride weekend in Western New York featuring a parade through Buffalo on Sunday followed by a celebration on Bidwell Parkway. Thousands of people took part and some of them say they consider the parade to be a great way to show people that gays and lesbians really aren't that different from everyone else.
"We are just like everyone. We just want to have a good time," says Joan Blackman, "We enjoy it, you know, we are who we are and we are not ashamed of it."
"This is a chance that everybody needs for the gay community to be able to get out and enjoy ourselves, without discrimination. It's just a way for us to express ourselves," adds Roberta McCasin.
Many of the participants tell Eyewitness News that they're disappointed same-sex marriage still is not legal in New York state, but they're hopeful that will change soon.
