A sporty-looking roadster was generating an electric buzz in Amherst on Saturday. The Tesla Roadster is a 100% electric car which can run 244 miles on a charge. That's an improvement over earlier models of electric cars. Tesla Motors officials say the car can go from zero to 60 m.p.h. in 3.7 seconds. The Roadster was available for test drives on Saturday at the Lord Amherst Hotel at 5000 Main Street.
"There's no oil changes. No catalytic converters," says Hans Ulsrud of Tesla Motors in Toronto, "The average internal combustion engine has over 180 moving parts. This car only has one moving part. The motor doesn't need to be serviced for over 1/2 million miles."
That may sound great but here's at least one catch: The base price for the Tesla Roadster is $109,000.
