Plans for a new joint operations center at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station cleared a major federal hurdle.
Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport, secured $9.5 million in funding that's considered crucial for the design and planning of the center. The operations center will help coordinate efforts of the C-130 flights handled by both the 914th and 107th Airlift Wings that fly out of the base.
"This new investment will improve coordination and continue the upward rise of the NFARS since we successfully removed it from the 2005 BRAC list," Slaughter said.
The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is one of the largest employers in Niagara County, with more than 3,000 working on its grounds.
"I will continue to do all I can to support the great work being done by the 914th and 107th," Slaughter said.
