Made in Tonawanda, not China

Chinese cars will be powered by "Made in Tonawanda" engine components. A report in this week's Business First shows how General Motors' Tonawanda plant is making 25,000 engine heads for a joint venture of GM and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. Plant officials say they started shipping in February and have ramped up volume since then. The program will end this month. The plant is looking for other similar opportunities.

A new nonprofit group called Honor Flight Buffalo will fly 25 veterans to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. This week. The group raises money to cover the cost of the one-day trip. The national group was founded five years ago and has a huge waiting list of vets looking to take the trip.

Fantastic Sams says it is in a major regional growth and expansion phase. Fantastic Sams plans to open an additional 3 to 5 salons in the Buffalo/Niagara market over the next year, creating about 40 new jobs for managers, stylists and receptionists. Fantastic Sams already has 20 salons in WNY, which are independently owned franchises.
