At 18 years old, Patrick Weisansal is now the youngest board member in the Maryvale School System after winning against incumbent Nick Giammarise in last night's election. Weisansal says he decided to throw his hat into the ring to help bring a student's perspective to the board.

"I had 9,200 flyers made and had a group of 50 of my friends, fellow students, family members, and their friends come out and help me," said Weisansal. "It was actually on a 60-mile-an-hour day that we went out and handed out flyers."

Even though the teenager admits he is young, he hopes that he can be a role model to other teens, and prove that anyone can achieve their goals with a little hard work.

"If you have a dream and you want to achieve something you just have to go for it hard and give it all you can," added Weisansal. "Even if you don't make it, stay true to what you believe in and don't give up."

Weisansal will now serve the next four years on the school board and plans to attend Trocaire College in the fall for Radiological Technology.
