Buffalo Police Looking For Hit And Run Driver Who Struck Pregnant Woman

BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW - release ) Buffalo Police are looking for a Hit and Run driver after he apparently struck a pregnant woman in South Buffalo Monday morning, May 17th.

Police say the incident happened at around 8am Monday morning when a Buffalo woman in her 40's was crossing the street near Abbott Rd. and Lorraine Avenue.

It appears the woman had just left Mercy Hospital and was crossing the street, when the vehicle, coming off of Cazenovia and onto to Abbott, struck her in the crosswalk.

The victim was rushed to ECMC where she is currently listed in critical condition in the trauma ICU Unit with multiple injuries including head injuries.

Witnesses have told police that the driver got out of his vehicle right after the accident and then got back in and left the scene.

The vehicle is described as possibly a newer model Ford pick-up, possibly a 4 door and either maroon or red in color.

The vehicle also has tinted windows and chrome grill and trim. The vehicle also has a silver tool box built in to the back.

Witnesses describe the driver as a white male, possibly in his 30's, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, blue-jeans and a buttoned down black shirt.

The Buffalo Police Accident Investigation Unit is in charge of the incident.

*UPDATE*

Police have confirmed that they have a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in custody. Police believe that it *may* be the vehicle involved.
