SALAMANCA, NY ( WKBW ) Multiple fire companies from the Southern Tier responded to a major fire that engulfed the former Philadelphia furniture plant, and another building, in Salamanca, N.Y. Friday night.
The Philadelphia furniture plant at 100 Rochester Street was one of Salamanca's most historic buildings.
Sparks from the fire also touched off a blaze at the Luminite products building nearby.
At one point, Salamanca Mayor Jeffery Pond declared that Salamanca was in a state of emergency due to power and cell phone loss.
Fire officials told our photographer on the scene that the building was for sale, and they already suspect arson might be the cause.
Parts of the former furniture plant building collapsed.
Firefighters remained at the scene throughout the night after the main areas of the fire were put out, and will continue their investigation into a possible cause.
