TOWN OF HOLLAND, NY ( Sheriff's Office Release ) Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports that an accident at a construction site early Monday afternoon in the Town of Holland has claimed the life of a Silver Springs man.

A 911 call was received at 12:16p.m. from the site of a house being built on Hawks Hill Road, reporting that a worker was trapped under the collapse of an earthen bank. Emergency medical personnel from the Holland Fire Department treated the victim at the scene, and he was flown to the Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Acker, age 34. He was employed by Fisher Concrete of Java Center.

The preliminary investigation has shown that Mr. Acker was working with other employees putting in a basement, when a section of the earth bank approximately 15 feet wide and 8 feet high collapsed, pinning him underneath. The other employees worked feverishly to free the victim, and they were able to extricate him prior to the arrival of the fire department.

On location with Sheriff's investigators was a representative from the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The investigation is continuing.
