ALBANY (WKBW) - - New York's spending plan is now nearly a month late, and lawmakers continue to ignore Governor David Paterson's requests to put in extra hours in order to hammer out details of the budget. Today the governor spoke to a New York City radio station and gave lawmakers a hypothetical deadline: if they don't pass a budget by the end of next week he will start taking drastic measures to get a spending plan on the books. Paterson is calling a special session of the legislature to make sure lawmakers put forth an honest effort on passing a budget. Paterson also says despite public outcry, he will furlough more than 100,000 state employees in the next emergency spending plan unless something can be done. Lawmakers will return to Albany on Monday.
