BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- On the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, volunteers all over Buffalo are working to make their communities more clean and more green.
Forty workers from National Grid are working to build a rain garden at the corner of Michigan and Northhampton. The garden is designed to collect rain water to prevent excess runoff in to the city sewer system.
The entire garden is being constructed with recycled materials from Buffalo Reuse, making it a truly 'green' project.
Nearly 450 volunteers from Americorps and the Home Depot are taking part in a project called 'Keep our Neighbors in Good and Clean Homes'.
Thanks to a $34,000 grant from the Home Depot, volunteers are pruning, cleaning and planting gardens, while doing home repairs on neighborhood houses.
