JAMESTOWN, NY (WKBW) -- Fire crews were called to an apartment building on Lakeview Avenue around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon where a fire had broke out in a first floor apartment.
The fire quickly spread from the first floor apartment throughout the building, causing thick black smoke and heavy flames.
Fire crews say that the man who lived in the apartment where the fire started helped to get other residents out, though once outside, residents realized one person was missing.
A man living in a second floor apartment of the building did not make it out alive. Officials are not releasing the name of the victim at this time, and investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to the two families and two adults who lived in the building.
