BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Here are some of the top stories from Good Morning Western New York.

The Buffalo Sabres take the series lead in the playoff match-up with the Boston Bruins after 2-1 victory Thursday night. Game 2 will be played Saturday afternoon at HSBC Arena.

An enormous ash cloud from a remote Icelandic volcano has caused the biggest flight disruption since the 2001 terrorist attacks. Officials say it could take days for the skies to become safe again.

A memorial bench will be dedicated to Jonathan Croom and Chip McCarthy, the firefighters killed in the line of duty last year. The bench will be placed at the corner of Main and Mercer in the city.
