BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Here are some of the top stories from Good Morning Western New York.

A series of strong earthquakes struck a rural, mountainous region in China, killing at least 300 people and injuring thousands. A large humanitarian effort is now underway to bring aide to the region.

Officials are investigating a deadly accident involving a CSX train. The incident happened at the crossing near Bay View Road in Hamburg Tuesday night. The victim is a 22-year-old male whose identity is not being released.

The state's budget woes are forcing the closure of a Lancaster elementary school. The district is making cuts to help deal with a $4 million cut in state aid and declining enrollment. 230 students will be reassigned.
