HealtheLink adds 2 Niagara hospitals

September 27, 2013 Updated Apr 13, 2010 at 6:58 AM EDT

A regional effort to link physicians and improve patient care has expanded into Niagara County.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Mount St. Mary's Hospital joined HealtheLink's Western New York Clinical Information Exchange.

Joining the system allows the hospitals to share patient health information electronically with hundreds of health-care providers throughout the area. Through HealtheLink, physicians have access to patient data, including lab and radiology reports, prescription histories and other reports. Other participating organizations in the system include Kaleida Health and Catholic Health hospitals, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Erie County Medical Center, WCA Hospital and Quest Labs.

The goal is to improve the delivery of care, enhance clinical outcomes and mitigate costs.

HealtheLink was established with funding from the state and regional health insurers and hospital systems. Stakeholders today include healthcare professionals and organizations and government health groups throughout the eight-county region.
