Stephanie West, DVM, of the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society was on the show today discussing how to prevent dog bites.

To prevent dog bites it is important to know that if a dog is hurt or in pain, it is will bite. Some dogs are very protective of food, toys, bones and it is important to teach children not to put their faces near a dog's incase they were to ever bite. Teach them to be cautious around a dog that they don't know incase it does bite. There was a study shown that most dogs who were hugged had an increase of stress.

Another way to prevent dog bites is to read a dogs body language. If the dog is pulling away or has a furrowed brow, the dog is scared and might bite.
