Sharon is an award-winning journalist who has returned to “Eyewitness News” after taking time off to raise her children.

In her time with WKBW, Sharon received an Associated Press Award for best news coverage during a snowstorm and has also won a media award from the Latino Business Owners Association in Buffalo.

Prior to moving to Western New York with her husband, “Eyewitness News” meteorologist Aaron Mentkowski, Sharon earned a journalism degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University before moving on to a job as a reporter for WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, and at WGXA-TV in Macon, Georgia. She has also worked for CNN in Atlanta, and was the Leo Beranek News Reporting Fellow at WCVB-TV in Boston.

In addition to her on-air work, Sharon has taught in the Communications Department at Buffalo State College. She also teaches Spanish to children and has created a line of products to help learn the Spanish language at www.StartSpanishNow.com. As a result, she is listed in the 2007 edition of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”.

Sharon is also a dedicated mother of two sons.
